The picturesque landscape and beautiful skiing trails are calling visitors to a pleasurable and inspiring winter recreation. The terrain which is either flat or slightly hilly is absolutely ideal for this type of recreational activity; in good snow conditions it is possible to set up tracks in immediate vicinity of Gorje, connecting it with surrounding villages.
The best and most well-rounded offer for cross-country skiing can be found at the Pokljuka ravine. The tracks there run through quiet forests and across extensive mountainous pastures. Between end of November and April the area offers ideal conditions for cross-country skiing, with over 30 kilometres of superbly arranged tracks catering to both the classic and skating techniques.
If you have never tried cross-country skiing but have always wanted to, Pokljuka also offers welcoming instructors who can acquaint you with the sport and show you the basics in a matter of hours.
FUN FACT: Pokljuka is a world-class venue for Nordic skiing competitions, including the BMW BIU World Cup. It is also the official home of the Slovenian biathlon team.
